3 FREE Tips on how to upgrade your living room NOW!
I was thinking about ways to upgrade my living room space without breaking the bank. There are many ways we can do this, but these 3 stood out! I hope you enjoy :)
#1- DECLUTTER! Keeping our space, CLEAN and minimal creates a more high-end, elegant look.
Step one is to clean your space. Remove anything that is not being used or that does not belong in a living room. Try using decorative boxes for your remote and controllers so you can put them away when they aren't in use. I also like using trays to group items on a coffee table or side table. This creates a more intentional organized look. Use baskets for extra blankets and pillows. Hide your shoes and slippers inside a basket as well, or put them in a designated landing zone.
Think about when you walk into a hotel lobby, a designer store, or a beautiful home. They usually have fewer items, very clean and open spaces and everything looks expensive. We can achieve this look by investing in quality pieces, displaying fewer items, and keeping our spaces free from trash, unused items, and clutter. The key here is to hide small unattractive items that do not fit the color pallet or theme of your space. That leads us to #2.
#2- Come up with a color palette for your space.
Choose 4 to 5 colors to use that complement each other and make you feel amazing. Think of mixing colors and metallics. You can do dark bold colors, cool tones, warm tones or neutrals.
When we repeat colors and keep everything consistent it gives our brains and eyes a break. It also gives off a more put-together and high-end look because it requires more intention. The last thing you want is a busy living room with many colors and themes going on. That will give off a cheap vibe and keep your brain working and not relaxing. You can start by removing items that do not fit your color palette and keep those shades in mind when purchasing new items. It's better to start with less and work up to acquiring new thoughtful pieces for your space. Sometimes less is more.
#3- Shop your home! Now that you have cleared out your space, and come up with a color palette, it's time to shop your home for items you can bring in. It's always a good idea to reuse décor in different parts of your home. Think about potted plants, statues, rugs, wall décor, or even throw blankets. With a color palette to work with, shop your home to see if you can bring anything from another room into this space. It's a good idea to use what you have first and work room by room. Start with your living room, and work your way around the house, one space at a time. You can create a bin for things you remove from the living room and possibly use them in other rooms when you get to them. The point here is to do what you can right now without breaking the bank around the holidays.
BONUS TIP!
You can also paint things in your home for a refresh. It's inexpensive to spray paint or chalk paint items like baskets, light fixtures, wall plates, and hardware for an upgraded look. Usually matte black or a brass color instantly provides a high-end look. Recycling and reusing items are friendly to our pockets and the planet. I can't wait to hear how creative you get!
