4 tips for Elegant Fall and Winter Decorating
Here are 4 tips for your fall and winter decorating! Something I've recently learned is decorating for the seasons can be a bit easier and more beautiful than decorating for a specific holiday.
Rethink your décor items. Think about how many holidays we celebrate and how big of a stockpile you may house in your space. Just because it's Thanksgiving doesn't mean you need 200 turkeys sitting out and loads of GRATEFUL signs. We can do things to keep this cozy thankful vibe that will elevate our space and last for longer than a couple of weeks.
Designer, Valentina, from House of Valentina, talks about incorporating more fuzzy blankets, and greenery that you would see in colder regions such as cypress and ferns. We can create a more high-end look by keeping things clean, simple, and elevated. Simple, classic, real wreaths and natural stone vases with mixed metals, create a more elegant vibe. When you utilize different textures and materials you create interest and a beautiful contrasting look.
Choose a color palette. We can use warmer tones for the fall in the blankets, and books we display. We can use cooler tones in the winter months as well. Think of the colors in nature for these months and mimic those shades. In the fall, the leaves are changing from green, to orange and red. In the winter, all the leaves have fallen, some evergreens remain, and some regions have white snow! Use these shades in your accents to bring out the vibe you want.
Less is more. Invest in higher quality pieces if you want to use pumpkins or Santa's, and keep it minimal. The key here is to appear more open and spacious so you feel more relaxed and luxurious. Try purchasing larger items so you need fewer. Don't overcrowd and decorate every space with loads of small décor.
Rotate materials. Another tip is to change your bedding and curtains to fabrics that are more warm and heavy. Velvets and wool feel and appear cozier and create that fall and winter vibe we crave.
BONUS TIP. Something fun, if you have the time, is to change the pictures in your frames with holiday photos. Bring out the photos with Santa, the thanksgiving dinner photos, and special holiday outings. It's a treat to remember special holiday moments and also promotes that fall/winter vibe without adding more things to your home.
These are just a few tips for creating a more elegant vibe in your home while still celebrating the seasons and holidays. I hope you take something away from these tips and I hope you have fun doing it!
All the love, all year,
