Decorate effortlessly with this styling tip!

I love to decorate with items that you might not always see put together. I love worldly items and vintage items, mixed with modern and shabby chic! One thing I’ve learned recently is we cannot display everything we love at once and we cannot just buy things because we admire them. I am so guilty of seeing something and thinking OMG I NEED THIS! I don't have a clue where I’m going to put it, but I LOVE IT SO I NEED IT ha-ha.

A tip I’ve recently began to implement is Creating a Theme for your Home.

Instead of choosing certain colors or buying matching sets, think about how you want to feel. What inspires you in life? What surroundings make you feel most at ease, relaxed or joyful?

There are many themes you can explore. Traditional, Mid-Century Modern, Industrial, Bohemian, Eclectic etc.

Give yourself a few key words that describe how you want to feel and live in your home. Example: Relaxed, Minimal, Warm, Inviting, Cozy, Expensive etc.

Anytime you see an item you love, ask yourself if it fits within your theme. You can mix themes as well! I really recommend this. You may love Mid-Century Modern as well as industrial and BOHO! You can mix these in a beautiful way. The key with mixing Themes is to be consistent with it. Mix it throughout and make it look on purpose.

I like to make a list of areas that need a little something to complete the final look. I will often take a photo of a space in my home that is lacking. When you're out and you see something, you love, check your notes or your photos to see if it's something you need. Do not purchase items if you have nowhere to put them.

Keep it minimal in your home. Which brings me to my next tip.

Above all else, the key to having the home we all dream of is to "DECLUTTER AND KEEP IT TIDY"

Throw out or donate items you no longer love or use. When we have less junk, we tend to choose more wisely what comes in our homes and it makes clean up so simple. I'm a messy creative person and it's been a journey learning to be tidy! The biggest thing I’ve learned is being organized is essential. Everything needs a home, or you will toss it anywhere and it adds up quick.

The first place that I think of that make me feel relaxed instantly is a hotel room. It’s so minimal, has room for me to put things away, the lighting is usually calm and inviting and it’s so clean! You can recreate this at home.

If you want to create a theme for your home, start by asking yourself these questions:

How do you want to feel?

What kind of life inspires you?

What is your top 3 favorite home decor themes?

Answer those questions, make notes, and get ready to redecorate!

Take a photo of the space, clear the space, clean the space, and put only the things that fit your theme back into the space. Take another photo and see if it needs any adjusting. Shop other decor items in your home if you need to and use them in the new space. You will redo the other spaces soon enough! LOL

Here are my answers to these questions:

How do you want to feel? - Pampered, Loved, Calm, Inspired, Organized

What kind of life inspires you? - Joyous, Natural, Free

What is your top 3 favorite home decor themes? -Industrial, BOHO, and Vintage/Shabby Chic

ONE LAST THING!..

HAVE FUN! Get the comfy clothes on, the good jams, the good drink and GET TO WORK! <3
