January Decorating Tips!

My last blog was about getting inspired before doing tasks to help you learn and get motivated. Well after learning a few things about the 2022 Home Styling Trends from an amazing Home Interior Stylist and my favorite plant lady, Planterina, I found some common themes.

Minimal and cozy. As Valentina from House of Valentina calls it "Warm Minimalism". It's clean, paired back, modern and earthy, but also warm and cozy, not cold and empty. Using real plants, earth tones, different textures and layers, but keeping the lines clean and items simple.

I have started the new year by decluttering a part of my house each day. It's so much easier to do things in sections rather than one big daunting project you cant possibly finish in one day and it leaves you with no sense of accomplishment. Taking on small sections of your home at a time can give you small wins and encourage you to keep going.

I started with my office space at home. This is where I start my mornings and do all my computer work. It made sense to organize this first. I removed everything from my desk and around it and swept and mopped. I rearranged the position to change up the vibe and put only what I loved back. I had a big bag of trash when I was finished. It felt amazing.

The next day I worked on my living room. Taking down all the Christmas Décor, even the tree! I removed many items and décor pieces, swept and mopped. I then put back only the items I loved and kept my space fairly empty because clutter always makes its way back. If you keep your space less cluttered it's also easier to clean up and feel relaxed.

I challenge you to declutter a small part of your living space this week and see if you can keep it going. Bring in some fresh new plants and find ways to let in natural light. Live with less and feel more. Add a few lamps and rugs and minimize what you keep on your surfaces.
