Part Time Minimalist

If you are afraid of going full minimalist try being a part time minimalist.

It's ok to be a lover of stuff and also someone who wants to get rid of stuff. I recently realized I'm both a Maximalist, and a Minimalist. I also noticed there was a pattern to my preference. Thinking about this might help you plan your own spaces more effectively and be more intentional with your home styling.

I need free clean space to create, therefore clutter can block my creativity.

My kitchen is a place I get to be creative and make our meals. I feel tense and blocked when this area is a mess. If there are dishes in the sink I'm not inspired to wash and make more dirty dishes. I decided to get rid of the clutter in my kitchen and keep only what I needed. Decluttering this area brought me so much peace and joy. It's a clean slate and helps me stay focused. This space feels minimal and I think it needs to be for my highest peace and joy.

I noticed I also love keeping my places of rest and relaxation minimal. My bedroom and living room are spaces I like to feel calm and serene in. I love walking in my home and seeing a clean simple living room. It feels fresh and inviting to enter your home and not be overwhelmed. Our bedroom is where we sleep, wake and prepare for our days. Much like my kitchen I get creative with getting dressed and planning my day. The bedroom is where I would like my brain to relax and to restore. Consider the spaces where you need to focus and rest to be more minimal.

Now let’s talk about maximalist spaces!

The bathroom closest to our kitchen is small and cozy and it has no windows. I painted the walls deep green in a watercolor finish and dressed them with vintage style art and fixtures. There are books, plants, lotion and towels. I even have some twinkling lights hanging. It feels like you are somewhere else entirely. This is a room of refreshment and ease. We don’t need to use much energy in this space so seeing beauty and having lovely items around is enjoyable. This is part of romanticizing your life. Taking something everyday and making it a beautiful experience. This bathroom gives me Secret Garden Vibes.

We have the same situation upstairs in our bedroom bathroom and hallway bathroom. It feels so exciting to walk into a creatively decorated space while also feeling relaxed and safe. I love using earthy cool tones on the walls and elegant decor. I often create collage walls and use lighting such as lamps or string lights. It’s also fun mixing patterns and textures.

The closet is even cooler! I like to max this out and use all the space! Adding storage to the top of the closet shelf, using drawers or a dresser to create a custom look, and hanging hooks and knobs for additional hangers and displaying items. I love to hang artwork in my closet and even organizers for jewelry.

I get to travel to a magical place and also to a clean relaxing place. I’m both a minimalist and maximalist so why not show up as both in my home styling. I’ve also learned part of having a relaxing space is keeping it clean. That’s a challenge! A tip I learned was having less helps keep your space looking tidy.

Remember: Don’t over buy, recycle, have a routine, and be intentional.

Take notes and see what would work for you! Have both if you want!

PS. no matter what you choose… YOU NEED PLANTS! Even in the bathroom. HAHA!

Thank you for reading this. You are special to me!
